Some leather types just aren’t right for my traditional fold over / edge lined style. Usually this is because the leather is too thick or too stiff.  I call these “cut-edge” Bible covers. Cut-edge covers are not my traditional style nor are they paste down.

They are somewhat of a hybrid. These covers have a leather lining that completely covers the inside cover. Then the text block is attached with the built-in leather hinge. This makes for a much stronger Bible.

I have seen many Bibles that used a paste down (often with paper) that failed at the hinges. Once the cover comes loose, the pages start getting more wear and damage. Often the spine of the text block will break down as well.

This binding style prevents that breakdown at the hinges.  The cover still lays flat while providing excellent protection.

Cut-edge covers can be snap flap, strap & flap, and anything up to full yapp.
